Product Data Management System
|An information system that implements the product data management capability.|

|An organizing principle for product data management in which all product lifecycle data relates to, and is accessible via, an single point of reference within a PDM system.|

|A collection of one or more data file(s) that discloses, directly or by reference, by means of graphic or textual presentations, or combinations of both, the physical or functional requirements of an item.|

|The series of phases through which a product passes, from intake of requirements to its consumption or disposition.|
|Data that pertains to the product lifecycle.|
|The tracking, control and status control of product data, either as files, or through a database. PLM extends the scope of PDM to include each physical product produced from a design, including deviations from the design and usage of the product.|

It consists of applicable technical data such as models, engineering design data, associated lists, specifications, standards, performance requirements, quality assurance provisions, software documentation and packaging details.|
